Quarter Life Mahj Beginner Series | August

Quarter Life Mahj Beginner Series

The hobby everyone’s talking about is here—and we’re saving you a seat at the table.

If you’ve been seeing Mahjong all over TikTok and Instagram and want to learn; this is your sign! Join a group of other Kansas City young adults for a fun, beginner-friendly series where you’ll learn the game, meet new people, and pick up a hobby you won’t want to put down!

No experience needed; we will teach you everything from dealing your first hand to calling your first mahjong!

📅 Tuesdays | August 4, 11 & 18

🕕 6:00–8:00 PM

Week 1: Learn the Basics

We’ll cover the history of American Mahjong, learn the lingo, get to know the tiles and the National Mahjong League card, and walk through a game together step by step.

Week 2: Practice & Play

We’ll review what you’ve learned, practice the Charleston, and play a guided game with strategy tips and plenty of time to ask questions.

Week 3: You’ve Got This!

You’ll play a full game with your fellow beginners in a relaxed, low-pressure setting. We’ll still be there to help, but this is your chance to build confidence before joining future open play nights.

Your Ticket Includes:

  • Three 2-hour classes (6 hours of instruction)
  • An official 2026 National Mahjong League Card
  • A Quarter Life Mahj cheat sheet to take home
  • Light snacks & drinks each week

💚 $130 per person

By the end of the series, you’ll know how to play, feel confident sitting down at a Mahjong table, and have a group of people to show up to more QLM events with!

Spots are intentionally limited to keep the group small, social, and beginner-friendly.

Meet Your Host

Like many twenty-somethings, Ally Kmiecik was looking for a hobby that felt more meaningful than another evening spent scrolling. After learning American Mahjong, she quickly fell in love with the strategy, excitement, and connection the game creates.

As a teacher by day and community-builder at heart, Ally founded Quarter Life Mahj to introduce a new generation to the game. Her goal is simple: create welcoming spaces where people can gather, learn, laugh, and build friendships one tile at a time.
